Falling Man Reflection

In the tragedy of 9/11, startling images appeared that spread controversy through many victims' families and the nation. This controversy was reached when some accepted the falling man pictures and others were in denial.  This difference is brought up through their family background and culture.  Some like to believe that there loved ones did not feel pain, yet others believe that the act of jumping means that they had given up on their families.  I don't believe this is a negative thing.  Even though it may be hard to look at, I see jumping as a better ending than the oppression of smoke and flames.  These photos are not necessarily exploitation, they are a report of an event.  The trauma that surrounds this date is terrifying, but the pictures open a window into the facts of the day and opens up our eyes to the realness of the situation.  Without these pictures, words could not have been enough to describe the tragic occurrences   I don't think it is necessary to know the identity because that is attaching emotions and a past to a photograph.  In horrific photos like those, it is sometimes better to leave the facts for people to absorb, but detach them from the emotions.  The anguish of the day is better understood through watching that, and helps us understand the lengths we go to for survival.
